Baked Broccoli Macaroni and Cheese

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, and bring to a simmer. Stir until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni and broccoli to the cheese sauce and mix well.
  7. Transfer to a baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
