Traditional Italian Tiramisu

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 1 package ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale.
  2. Heat milk until steaming, then gradually add to the egg mixture.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  4. Let the mixture cool, then fold in whipped cream.
  5. Dip ladyfingers in coffee liqueur and layer in a dish.
  6. Spread cream mixture over layers of ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
  8. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.
  9. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.
